Five Unexpected Characters Who Should Be in PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale

PlayStation All Stars is the chance for Sony to show us their industry might. Ever since the PlayStation days, it has been the console of choice for many gamers and various mascots have been shown on Sony platforms throughout the years. However, this is for characters who are not as expected (Jak and Daxter or Ratchet). This list also includes third party characters.

5) Kevin Butler

On the Euphoria Podcast, we joked about the inclusion of  in Kevin Butler in the game but he is the perfect candidate to be in PlayStation All Stars! He is a legend in terms of video game marketing campaigns and with all that comedy gold being smelted into one game, it would be amazing. Think of all the one liners he could make against his rivals as Kevin pulls off his “no look flaming crossbow shot!!!” All jokes aside, Kevin Butler should be a commentator for titles, character select screens and when the match ends. The current voice for the commentator is bland and shows no personality so Sony, why not have your comedic genius work on PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale!?

4) Wander (Shadow of the Colossus)

There recently has been a HD remake of Shadow of the Colossus and The Last Guardian is hopefully around the corner so why not add Wander on the game? Shadow of the Colossus is historic in terms of reaching the highest fidelity with the PS2 hardware. The bosses themselves were levels! That’s crazy! I first played the game on the PS3 and it still looked stunning with its HD version. Sure, the character is a little amateur with his swings, stumbling at every attack but the weapon he carries can blind his enemies with the beam that comes out of it. Plus, with Wander in the character roster, there would be a stage based on the colossus itself.   His level three super would be when (spoilers) he turns into the black beast. The energy which comes from slain colossi envelops him and suddenly this energy pulls his enemies towards Wander’s monstrous grasp.

3) Rayman

Ever since the days of the original PlayStation, Sony fans have loved the limbless hero. With his helicopter hair and flying fists, he would be perfect to fight alongside the likes of Kratos and Nathan Drake. There are also many venues from Rayman for the PlayStation cast to fight in. One example would be Marshes of Awakening from Rayman Revolution where the fighters ride on the snakes of the swampland river, which maneuver through ramps and rocks along the path. Another level would be the Sea of Serendipity from Rayman: Origins, which begins at the level where the stage gets obliterated by cannon fire. As the screen side scrolls, it would lead to an underwater part of the stage with fish being obstacles in your path. To end the stage cycle, the players would ride on creatures called Moskitos and fight in an airborne setting. Rayman has a wide range of moves to choose from. In Rayman 3, he changes into different forms with the use of cans. When Rayman uses a blue can, he obtains the ability of Lock Jaw, which transforms his fists into chains. Another special move involving his fists would be when they turn gold like in Rayman 2 and as he attacks, it counts as a knock out. There are many possibilities for Rayman’s move set and if he is included, it might give us a chance to smack those annoying rabbids!

2) Finn  (Sorcery)

Sorcery came out in May 2012 and in my opinion, is the best showing of the PlayStation Move so far.  This in itself is important to PlayStation’s future. Finn is the protagonist of the game, who starts out as a young amateur apprentice but at the end of the game, he is a sorcerer with six powerful spells under his belt and the magical Nexus Shield. PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale’s game mechanics are based around shielding attacks so the Nexus Shield would be perfect for the character. The problem with the Nexus Shield is that it can only block from one angle. It cannot cover him from behind. With ranged magic attacks and the shield bash move he learns in Sorcery, he would be a great asset to Battle Royale. Finn’s ultimate special would involve an attack he gets from the end of the game called the Nightmare Nexus, which is a more powerful version of his ordinary attack, the Arcane Bolt. Also, he can use the move, Heroic Strike, which has him pummel the ground and cause a shockwave around him. Many stages can be created as well such as the final boss stage with the Nightmare Queen placing circles of darkness throughout the level. If one steps in these circles for too long, they get zapped! The Tower at the beginning of the game also would make an excellent stage for the PlayStation All Stars. Who doesn’t want to fight on top of a tall infrastructure!?

1)    Sora (Kingdom Hearts)

Sora, throughout much of the Kingdom Hearts series, has been a staple to Sony. The original Kingdom Hearts was the very reason why many grabbed the PlayStation 2, including myself. The sales for the original Kingdom Hearts reached the number of almost 6 million units. What better way is there to celebrate this cherished franchise than place him into Battle Royale? Forget Cloud and Lightning! There would be many moves at the keyblade weilder’s disposal including Sonic Blade, which rushes from one side of the map to the other (like Fox’s dash move in Super Smash Bros). In addition to that, there are a plethora of spells to choose from (Thunder, Fire, Blizzard, Aero, Magnet). His special move would be Ars Arcanum, a combination of slashes from the keyblade which eventually ends with flaring lights shooting out the end of his weapon. For his level three super, he would change into the Final Form, which has him change his appearance into a white costume. His change of clothes also comes with four keyblades hovering above his head and a power to hover at all times during this special form. To get a good idea on how he would play, check out Super Smash Flash 2, an excellent Flash based fan made game by McleodGaming.com. There is one condition though if he is on PlayStation All Stars (and I’m sure many agree with me) and that would be NO DISNEY!

For the past year, I have been writing for PlayStation Euphoria as Editor of the website. Five years ago, I moved from England to Canada in search for a new way of living. A lot changed but my love for gaming hasn't. Ever since playing Sonic the Hedgehog on the Sega Genesis as a kid, I have played games almost daily. When I read my first gaming magazine, I knew becoming a journalist is something I want to do. At the age of 10, I used to create my own one page publication every month and share it with my friends and teachers. It's funny, now thinking about it, because I used to rate games HOT or NOT in red and blue bold font. Ever since then, I have written articles for various websites and now I have a great family of writers with me here at PlayStation Euphoria.
