What Did You Notice in the #PlayStation2013 Video?

As PlayStation revealed what could possibly be the first promotional video for the PlayStation 4. As is the norm with promotional videos from any company, they are usually filled with dozens of “Easter Eggs” that can hint to various announcements or features. Let’s take a look at what we could see or hear in the latest PlayStation promotional video.

First thing to notice is the link to the page us.playstation.com/meeting 2013, this allows for additional speculation to say that Meeting 2013 would be a special PlayStation announcement for their next gen console. As many of you know, the idea of having announcements at E3 might not be as likely due to rumors that the next-gen consoles would be announced before E3. There is also a trend of major no-shows at E3 in recent years as big name companies don’t feel the need to compete with others for attention at the Electronic Entertainment Expo.

The next thing to notice is that in the beginning 5 seconds of the PlayStation video the high pitched digital sound that occurs feels familiar with the start up sound of the PS2. While not being an exact match the pitch sounds like a slight reference to the PS2 which could mean many things:

  1. The company wants to reach back to one PlayStation which was at the top of its game during the PS2 era
  2. That this is to signal a new console by using nostalgia to bring the PlayStation Brand forward
  3. That this is the new start up sound for the PS4.
Remember this guy?

Remember this guy?

The next thing to notice is the shapes that occur over the next few seconds. At first they seem to be in place to show the actual design of a new PlayStation device before splitting apart to become the circle, cross, triangle, and square buttons. This is a very speculative sign to notice however it does bring forth a valid idea that this could be a PlayStation 4 announcement.

Another fairly speculative sign is the use of neon lights in the promotional video.  The vibrant colors and visual cues all have a three dimensional effect which could be a sign that Sony is sticking with 3D and will be making that a primary concern with the PlayStation 4.

Whatever you see from the PlayStation video feel free to speculate but I will warn that you must take everything here with a grain of salt as it is not set in stone that this is in fact the PlayStation 4.  Additionally this is all speculation and analyzation of the PlayStation 2013 video as referenced above!

Please comment with any of your findings in the PlayStation 2013 video and we’ll see if we can work them in!

A rad ad with a date, making that ‘ad’ valid for only a few weeks? Unlikely.

This is all just speculation, as editors we like to put a lot on our minds considering we have no idea what it is but “the future”.

The breathe of sigh at the end is actually reminiscent of the breathing from the start up of the PS1.

All the neon lights colors represent one button on our controllers except the yellow . So maybe a redesigned controller too?

I sure hope it doesn’t take 45 seconds for my PS4 to start.
