Namco Bandai, today, have revealed that the Ni No Kuni series has sold approximately 1.4 million units worldwide since it’s initial release in Japan for the Nintendo DS. This figure includes the worldwide sales of both the PS3 version and the Japan only Nintendo DS version. Will we see a sequel for the PS4 because of this?
It is worth mentioning that Namco Bandai are now calling Ni No Kuni a series because both the PS3 and DS versions are the same game. Could we see more of Oliver’s adventures soon due to how well the game sold? According to Olivier Comte, Senior Vice-President at Namco Bandai Games Europe, the game “has reached an amazing number of sales for a JRPG.”
In addition to that, Akihiro Hino, the CEO of Level-5, told Nikkei (via Gematsu) in an interview that a PS4 game is “still in the planning stages” and “we might be able to announce it soon.” With Tokyo Game Show around the corner, we might see that announcement coming very soon in the form of Ni No Kuni 2.
With Hino hinting towards an announcement of a PS4 game, the use of the words “series and franchise” being thrown around, and Comte mentioning that the game “has reached an amazing number of sales for a JRPG”, we could possibly see a sequel for Ni No Kuni being realized this month at the Tokyo Game Show.
