Dust 514 and EVE

Last Year’s E3 did not have any BIG startling announcements for Sony however it did have the announcement of a game that has confused yet intrigued us ever more. Dust 514 being developed by CCP was advertised as a PlayStation Network Exclusive first-person shooter that connected with EVE online in some way. Now the details of this connection have not come under clear fruition until now. CCP is currently about to undergo their next fanfest event in Iceland and with that the first Playable version of Dust 514 will be present and people will actually get to see and use the EVE online connections. IGN has a great video detailing the link between the two games:

So imagine a game like MAG where the commander on the field is an EVE Online player and they are interacting in real time to call in airstrikes, dropships, etc. Sounds cool right? Well CCP has some great talent behind them (like former DICE Devs) and with DUST 514, EVE Online also needs some updates, something to wrap the story around the addition of Dust 514. CCP has a cinematic trailer for just this with EVE Online Forever.

What Makes Dust 514 even more exciting however is that the game also has a Vita Companion app according to an even more recent post by the PS.Blog

The PlayStation Vita will be able to be used as a type of organisation app to keep players up-to-date on Dust 514 news as well as customize loadouts, chat, use the marketplace, etc. It will get rid of the tidius work so when you actually get back home the player can jump right into the action.

That’s not all however, Dust 514 is easily one of the deepest MMOFPS games out there and with the severe amount of customization and leveling up, According to the CCP fanfest it could take up to seven years to fully level up your character. Not to mention that the vehicles in the game have an astonishing amount of leveling up and skills to build on their own.

DUST 514: Five Things We Learned At EVE Online Fan Fest

Dust 514 looks sharp!

the PS.Blog had a cghance to go in-depth with the connection between the two games at the keynote speech, PS.Blog discovered that the Games are not only linked but occpy the same server and same voice chat, text chat, etc. all in real time. They “co-exist, rather than point to one specific point of linkage” says James Gallagher, Blog Manager at SCEE (Sony Computer Entertainment Europe).

Hopefully that will specify some of the intense innovation that Dust 514 is bringing to the PlayStation 3 and gaming abroad!
