DC Universe Online Delayed, Beta Improved

Sony Online Entertainment today has announced that DC Universe Online has been delayed and will now ship in early “2011″. Prior to the release we were expecting this November.

“SOE is dedicated to delivering the highest quality game experiences possible,” says John Smedley, President of Sony Online Entertainment. “DC Universe Online is the first game of its kind, and a truly massive undertaking – the first action MMO set in the DC Universe, the first MMO on the PlayStation3, and the first time the entire DC Universe will be accessible to the millions of fans who are eagerly anticipating its release. As the game heads into external beta testing, this extra time will allow us to address community feedback in a meaningful way. When we get deeper into external beta, we’ll be able to share more information regarding the new launch date.”

Although you might have to wait for the full release of the game, SOE has announced that players with VIP access key cards and those who have registered on the DCUO website will receive beta access on a priority basis starting as early as next week. Also for anyone who have already pre-ordered the game and those who do so by November 15th, will get assured access to the beta on November 30th. Let it be noted that this is only for North America.

To extend the greatness of participating in the beta, anyone pre-ordering the game after November 15 will gain beta access one week prior to the launch date, and as an added bonus will be able to participate in the special beta ending event entitled Battle of the Legends with the rest of the game’s beta participants. Another small additional bonus gives beta participants the chance to be recognized post release with a special emblem for their character when the game finally goes live.

If you’re not interested in pre-ordering the game but still want in on the beta, you have until 11:59pm PST tonight to get in and get registered even though you won’t be guaranteed access.

Lastly, a Collector’s Edition for the PlayStation 3 will also be released (again…North America only), which includes the same items contained in the PC version announced earlier this year. That’s all for now, but we’ll be sure to  keep you posted on any more DC Universe Online details as they emerge.
