In the past, I have written “5 Unexpected Characters Who Should Be in PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale” which included Kevin Butler, Finn, Sora, Rayman and Wander but there are so many characters to choose from in the PlayStation universe. Here are “4 Third Party Characters I Would Like To See As DLC For PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.”
Note: Third party characters have been considered for downloadable content according to Omar Kendall, the creative director of the game during our interview with him. Sony Santa Monica, on Twitter, afterwards confirmed that there will be DLC coming to PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale in the future.
Oliver (Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch)
Ni No Kuni, released on January 22nd 2013, is a role-playing masterpiece from the minds of Level-5 and Studio Ghibli. With much critical and RPG lovers’ acclaim, Ni No Kuni has proved to be one of the PlayStation 3′s best exclusives and having Oliver in PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale would be an excellent addition with his unique fighting style. In PlayStation All-Stars, he would use his wand against his rivals, conjuring up fireballs from far away and unleashing creatures known as familiars. Much like in Ni No Kuni, Oliver would have four movesets to pick between (himself and three other familiars he controls) and Sony Santa Monica could implement the menu system from the game he’s based on into the actual battle. Another way of implementing his moves into PlayStation All-Stars is to have the familiars show up with particular button presses like Fat Princess’ circle attacks. Oliver’s one weakness would be his offensive strength. Only his familiars could do melee damage while Oliver would only be able to conjure up spells from far away. For his level three, Oliver would use “Burning Inferno” which summons a vast swirling vortex of fire around his body and is then shot at his enemies. Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is an astounding game in many gamers’ and critics’ eyes and Oliver being in PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale would make Japanese Roleplaying Game fans very happy. Make it happen, Sony!
Spyro the Dragon
Let me get this straight. As a kid, I liked Spyro more than Crash and I still feel that way. Spyro and Crash launching on the same day as downloadable content, however, would send me spinning with excitement. Spyro the Dragon has become a phenomenon with each generation since his first foray on the original PlayStation. We’ve had the original games by Insomniac Games, the PS2 games from Vivendi (which became best sellers) and the Skylanders series which has rapidly become one of the most popular game franchises on the planet. From such a rich library of games to grasp, Spyro could definitely work his way onto PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale. The purple dragon has had a variety of looks throughout the years such as the epic design of Spyro in Dawn of the Dragon, the original style from Insomniac Games and Skylanders’ Dark and Normal Spyro; these can be used as skins in All-Stars. Spyro and Crash are both essential characters in PlayStation history and even if they are owned by Activision, Sony should bring them to the game. They deserve some recognition, Sony and your fans are demanding these additions!
Connor (Assassin’s Creed III)
An Assassin’s Creed character in PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, I believed, was a sure thing for the original roster but it wasn’t the case as the game came out. PlayStation and Ubisoft are having a solid relationship with exclusive downloadable content and it almost seems like with every PlayStation E3 Conference, they show an Assassin’s Creed demo. Plus, Ubisoft has created exclusive Assassin’s Creed games on their platforms: the Vita (ACIII: Liberation) and the PSP (AC: Bloodlines). Connor, as a character for downloadable content or in future installments would be an exceptional add to the roster with many weapons at his disposal. Firstly, Connor is a master bladesmen with various sword types such as longswords, tomahawks, and of course the Assassin’s iconic hidden blades. This character also has ranged attacks with his bow and pistol. If you ignore his weapons, Connor can be agile, do reversals and can climb up walls quickly. For supers, the Assassin can call upon his Brotherhood, getting kills from his followers, a trip mine, which ensnares his opponents in an explosion and a horse whistle enabling him to fight on horseback. If Santa Monica decides to use this character, Connor can be used in many interesting ways to make him feel unique for PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.
Yu (Persona 4)
Persona 4 Golden is considered to be one of the best games to be released within the PlayStation Vita’s launch year and it won our “Best HD Remastering” for 2012. The Persona series has been a staple for PlayStation Roleplaying Game fans since the PS1 and is critically acclaimed by many outlets. Although unlikely by how niche Persona is, Yu would be an excellent addition to the PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale roster. Yu is a high school attendant by day but fights monsters called Personas at night with a sword and magic at hand. Much like Oliver, Yu carries a wide range of magical abilities as he casts Agi (Fire), Bufu (Ice), Zio (Electricity), Garu (Wind) and many more. However, what will make Yu stand out is how he switches his abilities. In Persona 4, Yu switches his abilities by changing “personas” and throughout the story, Yu collects them similar to Pokemon. In PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, Yu can change movesets by which persona the player chooses. If Yu is chosen for the game, the level three super would be simple to choose as he would lead the charge for his party to huddle onto his enemies and overwhelm the competition much like the game Yu derives from. Yu has proven to be translated into a great fighter by Persona 4 Arena so with these abilities and mechanics, this character would fit well with the All-Stars formula.
